Course Description:

If your company ships hazardous materials or dangerous goods in the United States, you must comply with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Code of Federal Regulations, 49 CFR. Under 49 CFR, Subpart H, Section 172.704 all employees involved in shipping hazardous materials within the U.S. must receive training. This course provides the foundational knowledge necessary to meet the minimum training requirements specified in the 49 CFR.

Note: This course is not a registered training provider for Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements for CDL and Hazmat Endorsements as stated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

This course covers:

• What hazardous materials are and how they are classified
• What training is required and why
• Responsibilities of those shipping hazardous materials by ground in the United States
• Proper package selection and use
• How to pack, mark and label items in accordance with the 49 CFR
• How to prepare shipping papers according to the 49 CFR

Course Description:

If your company ships hazmat or dangerous goods, the U.S. Department of Transportation requires the general awareness, safety and security training specified in 49 CFR Part 172.704 be taken every three years. This course meets the general awareness, safety, and security training requirements.

• Which agencies set the requirements, and the publications which state their requirements
• The transport chain, including shipper and operator responsibilities within it
• Hazmat classifications
• General packing requirements and proper package selection

Please Note: This course is an overview of the regulations, and is not for qualification or certification. This course is NOT for personnel who are responsible for acceptance checklists and regulatory review to determine compliance for a given shipment. Employees responsible for determining if packages comply with relevant regulations and employees responsible for certifying shipments (by signing a dangerous goods declaration or hazmat bill of lading) will require additional training as specified by their employer.

PREREQUISITES

Users must have completed an initial 24-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER OSHA training. If certification has not been kept current under OSHA guidelines (each successive year after completing the initial 24-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER), the 24-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER should be re-taken to maintain certification.
