Course Description:

If your company ships hazmat or dangerous goods, the U.S. Department of Transportation requires the general awareness, safety and security training specified in 49 CFR Part 172.704 be taken every three years. This course meets the general awareness, safety, and security training requirements.

This course covers:

• An introduction to hazardous materials
• Why training is important and what the requirements are
• Which agencies set the requirements, and the publications which state their requirements
• The transport chain, including shipper and operator responsibilities within it
• Hazmat classifications
• General packing requirements and proper package selection
• How to mark and label packages correctly
• How to correctly document hazmat shipments

Please Note: This course is an overview of the regulations, and is not for qualification or certification. This course is NOT for personnel who are responsible for acceptance checklists and regulatory review to determine compliance for a given shipment. Employees responsible for determining if packages comply with relevant regulations and employees responsible for certifying shipments (by signing a dangerous goods declaration or hazmat bill of lading) will require additional training as specified by their employer.

Course Description:

If your work involves handling, shipping, and/or the transport of hazardous materials to, from or within the United States by vessel, you must adhere to the regulations that are set forth in 49 CFR Part 171, Subpart C which requires hazardous materials being offered into transportation by vessel, motor carrier, or rail in accordance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code), provided all or part of the movement is by vessel must conform to the requirements in 49 CFR 171.22.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) maintains the IMDG Code. CHEMTREC and our online training course are not affiliated with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This course does provide required initial and recurrent training requirements to participants involved with the handling, shipping and/or transport of dangerous goods by vessel.

By completing this training, you will be able to navigate and apply the regulations to packaged goods, including bulk packagings, and shipments by vessel.

Primary Audience:

This online training is intended for shippers, freight forwarders, and hazmat employees involved in the handling, shipping, and/or transport of hazardous materials by vessel. This training will satisfy the function-specific hazmat training requirements in 49 CFR and the IMDG Code for hazmat employees with typical pre-transportation responsibilities. This training does not meet the minimum requirements for the crew working on a vessel.

This online training may also be applicable to government agencies, contractors, military personnel, and civilian subcontractors that are involved in the shipping and transporting of dangerous goods.

This course is intended to meet applicable training requirements in 49CFR, Subpart H, Section 172.704 for ground shipper staff. This course is not a registered training provider for Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements for CDL and Hazmat Endorsements as stated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

This course covers:

• What training is required and why
• Responsibilities of those shipping hazardous materials by ground in the United States

Course description:

If you ship dangerous goods by air on either passenger or cargo airlines, you must comply with the Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the legally binding document Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The majority of the world’s airlines use the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations which incorporates all the provisions found in the ICAO Technical Instructions and additional requirements deemed appropriate by air carrier.

Training Requirements:

The IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) requires that employees involved in the shipping, including the packaging, labeling, documenting, or loading/unloading the dangerous goods for air shipment are required to receive training (IATA DGR 1.5). The IATA DGR requires recurrent training at least every 24 months.

Primary Audience:

This online training is intended for the entire value chain including manufacturers, shippers, airlines, freight forwarders and ground handlers involved in the handling, shipping, and/or transport of dangerous goods by air. This training will satisfy the minimum training requirements specified in the IATA DGR.

Course Description:

OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard or HCS is a vital safety regulation that is based on the United Nation’s Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals or GHS. As of 2012, the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) is now aligned with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).

According to 29 CFR 1910.1200(h), if your company handles chemicals in the work area, you must provide employees with training about the hazards in their workplace. This course will help provide you with the knowledge and oversight that you need to understand the GHS System and how it relates to the HCS. You will also learn how it applies across the globe and what impact it might have on your operations.

PREREQUISITES

Users must have completed an initial 24-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER OSHA training. If certification has not been kept current under OSHA guidelines (each successive year after completing the initial 24-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER), the 24-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER should be re-taken to maintain certification.
